Liver Health

In Ayurveda, the liver is referred to as “Yakrita.” It is the largest organ involved in metabolism in the body. The primary functions of the liver include the production and secretion of bile, metabolic processes related to carbohydrates, fats, and proteins digestion and the filtration of blood. The liver aids in removing bacteria and other foreign particles that enter the bloodstream. It is also considered the principal site of blood formation, facilitated by Ranjaka Pitta (one of the five types of Pitta, or fire). Liver issues are often attributed to an excess of Pitta Dosha (fire humor) in the body.

Common liver-related ailments include Hepatitis A, an infectious disease caused by the hepatitis A virus (HAV). Another condition is fatty liver, which can result from excessive alcohol consumption or obesity. Cirrhosis is a condition where the liver gradually deteriorates and ceases to function due to chronic injury. Other related conditions include jaundice, splenomegaly, and hepatomegaly.

Numerous natural herbs support liver health. These herbs can enhance the liver’s natural ability to eliminate toxins and fat, thereby alleviating abdominal fullness, boosting energy levels, and improving mental clarity.
