Anemia & Iron Deficiency

Anemia is one of the most important and common diseases problems in the world today. It is the condition where level of haemoglobin in blood decreases below normal level. It may be due to the deficiency of iron and vitamins in the diet of the person. In other words, Anemia is caused by the lack of iron in the body, which reduces the count of the erythrocytes, i.e. red blood corpuscles, in the blood.

According to Ayurvedic point of view, Anemia is a Pita Dosha (Agni/Fire-Vitiation) disorder. Pita Dosha (Agni/Fire-Vitiation) is responsible for the proper digestion and assimilation of the food that we eat. Vitiation in the Pita Dosha (Agni/Fire-Vitiation), especially the paachaka Pita (Digestive Fire) can reduce the digestive capacity of the food. This can cause deficiency of the necessary nutrients, thus leading to Anemia.
