Ayurvedic Concept

Healthy function of kidneys and urinary tract plays an important role in the maintenance of other body functions. Renal stones (Calculus or lithiasis), known as "Ashmari" in Ayurvedic science, is one of the most common problems of the urinary tract. It occurs more frequently in men than in women. Urinary calculus is a stone-like body composed of urinary salts bound together by colloid mixture of organic materials. It consists of a nucleus, around which concentric layers of urinary salts are deposited. All the biological Humors (Doshas), i.e. Vata (Air), Pitta (Fire) and Kapha (Water), are involved in the pathogenesis of calculus. If the Vata (Air) dries up the urine in the bladder along with the semen, Pitta (Fire) and Kapha (Water), then gradually form a calculus. A calculus is just like a stone and may be of the appearance of either mulberry oxalate stone or it may be a smooth and three layered stone (Uric acid stone), or a soft stone (Phosphatic stone). When it passes in the urinary tract, it causes obstruction in the flow of urine and produces pain in the course of the urinary tract. This causes pain in the perineum, phallus and hypo gastric region and the stream of the urine gets split. The stone, when broken up by Vata (Air), forms sand which passes out through the urinary tract.

Stone Due to

Kapha (Water) : Feeling of heaviness and pricking pain in the supra-pubic region. The color of the stone is white. The stone is smooth, egg shaped. It can be correlated with Phosphatic Calculus.

Pitta (Fire) : Burning sensation in the urinary tract with recurrent urinary tract infections and burning Micturition. The color of the stone may be red, yellow or black. It can be correlated with Uric Acid Stone.

Vatta (Air) : Severe ad excruciating pain in the urinary tract and painful Micturition. Due to pain, the person becomes panicky. The color of stone is blackish. This stone, having spikes-like structure, is rough in touch with irregular shape. It can be correlated with Oxalate of Lime Calculus.

Note : Scanty urination may cause bacterial growth.

  6. Urinary Tract Infection
  7. Urinary Stones
  8. Kidney Stones

1. Renal Colic

It is a pain that can be caused by developing kidney stones. The pain usually starts around the kidney area or some where below it and can radiate through the flank until the pain reaches the bladder. The pain can be colicky in nature which means that it can come in irregular waves or intervals as opposed to being a steady continuous pain feeling.

Renal colic may come in two types dull and acute. The acute type of colic is particularly the most unpleasant and has been described by suffers as one of the strongest pain sensation felt. The pain may also depend on the type and size of the kidney stone or the stone that more through urinary tract.

Patient may also felt waves of pain coming from the back and radiating to the abdomen genitals and thighs.

Renal colic may also be associated with symptoms such as nausea, vomttings.

Renal colic patients may also shows signs of having a swollen abdomen.

Serious symptoms of renal colic may also include blood being found in urine which may show that the kidney stones may already have wounded parts of urinary tract.

2. Albuminuria

It is a pathological, conditions where Albumin is present in the urine. It is a type of protein urea. The kidney normally do not filter large molecules into the urine. So albuminuria can be an indicator of damage to kidneys. There are no large particles but there are large molecules. It can also occur in patients with long standing diabetics.

Albumin is the main protein in the blood. Proteins are the building blocks for all body parts including muscles, bones, hair and nails. Protein in blood also performs a number of important functions. They protect the body from infection, help blood clot and keep the right amount of fluid circulating throughout the body.

Proteins from the blood can leak into the urine when the fitters of the kidney called Glomeruli are damaged.

Albuminuria is a sign of chronic kidney disease which can result from diabetie, High BP, and diseases that cause inflammation in the kidney.

Thus testing for Albumin in the urine is a part of routine medical assessment for everyone.

3. Urethritis

Urethritis is the inflammation of the urethra. The main symptom is dysuria (Painful or difficult urination). It is caused by bacteria or a virus.

Symptoms in men : Blood in urine, burning sensation while urinating, fever (Rare), frequent urination, itching, swelling, tenderness in groin area, pain during ejaculation.

Symptoms in women : Abdominal pain, burning sensation while urinating, fever, frequent urination, pelvic pain, vaginal discharge etc.

4. Burning Micturation

Burning micturation is a common symptom that often indicates a urine infection. The bladder is a muscle that stretches to hold urine. Sharp pain or burning sensation in urethra felt when the urine is released.

Other symptoms include passage of pus from urine bleeding in urine, fever and stoppage or urine.

5. Hyper Uricemia

It is an excess of uric acid in blood. Uric acid passes through the liver and enters into the blood stream. Most of it is excreted (Removed from body) through urine or passes through intestine to regulate normal levels.

Causes : Causes of high uric acid levels (Hyperuricnary can be Primary) increased urice acid levels (Due to Purine). Purine is a nitrogen containing compound which are mad inside the cells of body or come from outside of the body from food containing purine. Purine breaks down into the uric acid. Increased level of uric acid from excess purine may accumulate in the tissues and form crystals. This may cause high uric acid level in the blood.

Uric acid formation may occur when the blood uric acid level rises than normal range. Problems such as kidney stones and gout (Collection of uric acid crystals in the joints especially in toes and fingers) may occur.

6. Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)

It is a bacterial infection that affects any part of urinary tract. Although urine contains a variety of fluids, salts and waste products. It does not usually have bacteria in it. When bacteria get into the bladder or kidney and multiply in the urine that may cause urinary tract infection (UTI). The main causal agent is E-coli.

Causes : Excessive sexual intercourse is a common cause of UTI because the female anatomy can make women more prone to urinary tract infection.

Another cause is waiting too long to urinate. The bladder is a muscle that stretches to hold urine and contracts when urine is released. Waiting too long past the time you first for the need to urinate can cause the bladder to stretch beyond its capacity over time this can weaken the bladder muscles. When bladder is weakened, It is not empty completely and some urine is left in the bladder this may increase the risk of urinary tract infection or bladder infection.

When bacteria enter the uterus and spread to Kidneys, symptoms such as back pain, chills, fever, nausea, vomittings may occur.

Other causes are dietary causes - Eating heavy indigestible sweet food, cold, fermented sour, starchy food, sedantary life, being idle, immediately going to sleep, exposure to infection, drinking less water, suppression of natural urges like passing urine cause urinary tract infection.

7.Urinary Stones

Urinary stones are small bits of hard material that are formed in the bladder. The bladder is an organ that stores urine made by kidneys until it is eliminated from the body through the urethra. Urinary stones are developed in the bladder itself and are generally large and harder to pass through the urethra to the outside of the body.

Bladder stones can form in the bladder when the bladder is not emptying properly and urine remains for unusually long periods of time in the bladder. This is called urine stasis. It occurs commonly in middle aged and older man due to an enlarged prostate which obstructs the flow of urine from bladder through urethra symptoms include a frequent urge to urinate, painful micturation, hematuria (Blood in Urine) and dysuria difficulty in urinating.

8. Kidney Stones

A kidney stone is a hard, cstrenuous, mineral formed with in the Kidney.

Causes : Kidney stones are commonly caused by haemturia and often there is severe pain in the abdomen, flank or groin. Kidney stones are some times called renal calculi.

The condition of having kidney stones is termed as nephrolithiasis.

These are formed when there is decrease in urine volume and an excess of stone forming substances in the urine. The most common type of kidney stones contain calcium in combination with other oxalate or phosphate, other chemical compounds that can form stones include uric acid and the amino acid cystine. Dehydration or strenuous exercise without adequate fluid replacement increase the risk of kidney stones. Obstruction to the flow of urine can also lead to stone formation kidney stones can also results from infection in the urinary track.

Why Uri Flush?

A urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection of the urethra and bladder or kidneys. If the infection is found in the urethra and bladder, it is referred to as a lower urinary tract infection. In the kidneys it is called an upper urinary tract infection. This system is usually sterile, but when not emptied regularly or completely from the bladder, urine can stagnate and grow bacteria. Bacteria can also be introduced into the system through the urethra. This is the most common cause of UTI.

If a lower urinary tract infection is not treated, it can reach the kidneys. Kidney infections are not only very painful, but can be life threatening. The kidneys remove toxins from the blood and flush them out with excess fluids. This is essentially urine.

Prevention of this type of infection can be done by reducing or eradicating the bacteria before an infection occurs. The first preventative would, of course, be good hygiene. Beyond keeping the area clean, avoid dehydration. An adult should drink about eight glasses of water each day, and urinate frequently. Frequent urination can flush bacteria out of the urethra and avoid stagnation of urine in the bladder.

Other preventative measures would be to take herbal preparations. Healthy kidney function is important in preventing urinary tract infections as well. Uri-Flush can improve kidney function, which in turn helps rid the body of natural toxins, and increases urine flow.
