The plant is a common twining creeper, native to most parts of India, and is found upto altitudes of 1000 m. The seeds are small, greyish brown and flattened. A diuretic effect has been shown'. As a home remedy, kultha has been used in dysuria, bleeding piles, vaginal bleeding, epistaxis and leucorrhoea. Its use in reducing obesity is also recognised. In dysuria it works due to its diuretic property. It is also used to reduce crystalluria.
