The root of Indian Sarsaparilla is an alterative tonic, diuretic, demulcent, diaphoretic and carminative. Sarsaparilla root is said to be good for gout, rheumatism, colds, fevers and catarrhal problems as well as for relieving flatulence, skin problems, scrofula, ringworm and tatters. Sarsaparilla would be classed generally as a "Blood purifier." Anantamul is said to promote health and cure all kinds of diseases caused by vitiated blood.

Ayurvedic Applications

Indian Sarsaparilla is useful in venereal diseases, herpes, skin diseases, arthritis, rheumatism, gout, epilepsy, insanity, chronic nervous diseases, abdominal distention, intestinal gas, debility, impotence, turbid urine. Sarsaparilla purifies the urino-genital tract, dispelling all infection and inflammation. While purifying the blood, its purifying action wends to the nervous system and it helps cleanse the mind of negative emotions; therefore it is useful in many nervous disorders. Sarsaparilla's diaphoretic and blood-cleansing action is useful for rheumatic inflammation. For herpes and venereal complaints, it stimulates the production of reproductive hormones and has tonic action on the sexual organs.

Indian Sarsaparilla promotes health and vigor. As a blood purifier it works well with burdock root. Externally, it can be used as a wash for genital sores or herpes, or as a non fomentation for painful, arthritic joints.

Decoction of stalks and leaves of anantamul is used for skin eruptions, Hearing disorders, Fevers etc.

Root decoction helps in skin diseases, syphilis, elephantiasis, loss of sensation, hemiplegia, loss of appetite, blood purification and for kidney and urinary disorders. It is best taken with other herbs.
